My Project
As a Kindergarten teacher in a community with a rapidly growing population of English learners, I want to make communication with my students and the families I serve more accessible so that I can better educate, understand and serve their needs. Starting at a new school, and for many students in a new country is scary enough, but when you can not understand the language or clearly communicate your feelings to your teacher - it can also be isolating.
ESL students deserve to have their voices heard, and to have accessible communication with the adults they spend the majority of their day with.
Your donation will provide a pocket translator, to help break down a barriers that 5 and 6 year olds should never have to face, and ensure that students can feel valued and heard, and access the full scope of the education that they deserve. This tool can help me communicate quickly with students without waiting on a translator, hold parent teacher conferences and calls more often, and learn how to be a better advocate for these students by letting them tell me what they need.
More than half of students from low‑income households
