Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I'm a K4 bilingual teacher in a public school in the Southside in Milwaukee. Developmental preschool is such an exciting group of mixed interests, abilities, and goals. Some of my students are learning to read, write, and count, while some of their classmates are learning to imitate sounds or hold pencils and crayons.
My classroom has 25 students, distributed as follows, 4 and 5 years.
Some students receive the service for Special Education (speech therapy, behavior, assistance in academic areas such as reading, writing math). All my students are of low economic resources.
As my students make gains in my classroom, they begin to try small chunks of the day with their typically developing peers. My classroom is about building skills to get included. The work we do in this classroom is building relationships, staying with the group, following directions, and accessing general education content in different ways. We celebrate little wins together each day together helping to create strong bonds of trust, fun, colorful teaching based on our standards.
My Project
These books will continue to enhance the letter-rich classroom that I strive to create. Our classroom is a place that my students really enjoy working with; they complete their work independently. Each student book is treated with love and care, and they are grateful for the opportunities to have these resources. All these books have been chosen thinking about my students, their needs and giving continuity to what we are learning.
With these new books, my students will be able to have a continuation of what they have learned and the opportunity to gain more knowledge.
In this way, they will allow them to do their work more independently at their own grade level. The best way to increase their learning capacity is by exposing them to educational materials different from the ones we use
daily.
My students have already shown an amazing interest in independent work, and this project will only help enrich their experiences with manipulative and visual materials necessary for their age.
