My Students

Intelligent, creative, independent, studious, and a little whacky. These are words I would use to describe our 7th & 8th grade students at West Side Collaborative Middle School.

Our students walk into the classroom every single day with a desire and passion to investigate, collaborate, and discover all they can before the final bell rings.

They are an inspiring bunch who are not afraid to ask questions and take risks. Mature beyond their years, they recognize the importance of every educational opportunity set before them and always strive to do their best at every turn. It's for these reasons that they deserve every chance to succeed.

My Project

We've all heard the old saying "Think outside the box." Our 8th grade team is asking our students to do just that. Literally! Breakout EDU brings the fun and excitement of the latest escape room craze to the classroom. Through a series of interactive team building and content-related games, students must work together to solve riddles, piece together puzzles, and crack the codes that unlock the prizes that lie within the Breakout EDU box. With just one box and a series of locks our students can become international spies, step into the shoes of their favorite literary worlds, be transported to the far corners of our planet, and travel back in time to history's greatest moments.

Breakout EDU will help us escape the monotony that can develop in the classroom and unlock the creativity and problem solving skills of each and every student.

Through the implementation of Breakout EDU's collaborative games, we can provide our students with valuable team building skills that will have an impact far beyond the walls of our classrooms. From our September orientation week icebreaker activities to becoming integral parts of all of our units, we hope to make the collaboration and creative thinking that comes with a Breakout EDU game a mainstay in our teaching.
