My Students

We are a small, rural community with hard-working students who need assistance with acquiring resources. Elementary music is provided for every K-6 student in our district, and we are expanding our high school music course offerings as well.

Our K-5 students are excited to come to class each time and are constantly asking, "When can we play instruments?" Our current inventory was salvaged from past classrooms, last used over fifteen years ago, and our school is working hard to update it to fit our current needs.

To build up our new elementary music program, we are asking for your help! These students deserve the same enriching opportunities as those in other parts of our state or country.

The music room is a unique place for collaboration and where we can achieve great things together. It is my goal to inspire the passion of making music as a community, and what better time than now! These students deserve the best!

My Project

These music puzzles and activities will be used as challenge stations during our escape room. Students will work collaboratively as their team completes each activity.

These games creatively take a musical skill and present an opportunity for children to demonstrate that skill in an engaging and fun way.

Instead of having students draw symbols, they will be using building blocks to create them. Instead of writing a rhythm, they are "painting" them with the Paint-a-Rhythm kit pieces printed with colorful rhythms. The composer puzzles will include facts about each artist hidden within. I will be able to teach them about instrument families of the orchestra, introduce classical composers, and assess students' rhythm reading while they are playing, and their minds will be busy on the puzzle!

With these games, our students will apply their musical learning to fun activities. We use escape room activities as incentives for students to earn with hard work and attentive focus in music class. When I would present the escape room to them in the past, I was often falling short of materials to keep them engaged for the entire class period. This will solve our problem and help promote the culture of play and creativity within our music room.
