My Students

My students come to school with a wide variety of experiences and different cultures which add up to a unique group of kids. They are a diverse group of students, including many students that are learning English as a Second Language. Many are immigrants or refugees and children of such. They come to this country for a new start, hoping to achieve the American dream. I hope that my part of providing them a great experience of starting school will help them reach their dreams.

My class of kindergarten students is enthusiastic about school and eager to learn.

They also come to school with a ​wide variety of academic experience levels. I hope through materials that I get through donors choose I can help provide my students with the best education possible and give them an advantageous start to their education.

My Project

With this project my classroom will have a set of Eric Carle books to study and enjoy. While my classroom currently has many copies of “The Very Hungry Caterpillar”, I believe that my students could benefit from having more Eric Carle books available to them. These books will be read aloud to the students and be set out on the student library shelf for them to explore themselves. The beautiful illustrations and beloved stories of Eric Carle are sure to develop my student's interest in literacy. My students would also be able to participate in an author study about Eric Carle with these books.

Kindergarten is a time to develop a love of learning and an interest in literacy.

It is also a great transition time for a child as they learn how to be in school. Eric Carle's books have long interested children with their unique artwork and heartfelt stories and continue to do so today. By providing my students with these books, you can help interest them in learning to read as well.

With these books supporting author study about Eric Carle, my kindergartners can develop their literacy skill and have fun at the same time. Young children often relate to these stories and their messages, and Eric Carle himself is quoted as saying: “I am fascinated by the period in a child’s life when he or she, for the first time, leaves home to go to school. I should like my books to bridge that great divide.” I hope that with these books we can make that a reality.
