Equity Starts With Each Student Having the Same Sketchbook
Help me give my students a sketchbook to call their own and use for all their creative work.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are motivated to become artists and they are located in the cultural vibrancy of downtown Los Angeles. We are an audition-free, public arts high school, and our students enjoy a rigorous art and academic education. My students are mainly low-income with over 70% qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch, making us a Title I school. They enjoy the local museums, participate in the arts, and thrive in the urban environment.
Our school has a dual mission of excellence in both the arts and academic studies, and our students graduate ready for college and also for further study in the arts.
We have a 99% graduation rate! Each student has as many as 12 art classes during high school, as well as exhibitions, and they participate in national and local art contests. We win more Scholastic Art Awards than any high school in the western United States. These hardworking kids appreciate what they have. You would like them, and you will love their artwork. We have a mission and a mandate to integrate the arts. They are creative, ambitious, and certain to make great use of any art supplies that come their way.
My Project
This project provides a sketchbook for each of my 120 Drawing students. Considering the circumstances of distance learning, my students are doing a great job learning how to draw from my Zoom demonstrations and slide shows. It will be great to have them back in class, but for now, they each need a place to work and that's in a sketchbook they can call their own.
A sketchbook is a portable art studio with a place for writing, thinking, and drawing.
It's full of creative potential, and a treasure for students to have once they have filled it with sketches, life and love. My low income students will love having these sketchbooks and having a place to put all of their creative ideas into action.
