it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Equity and equality have been used relatively interchangeably. While there are many similarities between the two, understanding the differences is crucial in providing the necessary tools to help students succeed beyond the classroom. Equity strives to achieve the best possible outcome for each individual student.
For low-income families, a lack of access to resources, such as driving lessons for students, can be crippling for their child’s education and opportunities.
The lack of access can come from a number of things, one being affordability. However, students should have access to the resources they need regardless of their socio-economic background. Studies show that teens who are a part of minority families are less likely to engage in a driver’s education experience.A formal training program consisting of practical instruction will equip them with the correct driving skills and knowledge. In turn, this will allow them to overcome obstacles in their own lives and prepare them for the real world.
Overall, both students and parents will benefit from providing these students with virtual driving lessons. Students who are less privileged will not have to rely on their parents to take them driving. If the only behind-the-wheel essential for attaining one’s provisional license is with a professional driving instructor, racial equity will improve as well as overall driver’s education and safe habits.
The effective educator speaks the language of his students and knows their needs beyond the classroom. With your support, I will be able to address equity issues my students face and provide them with a solid foundation of The Pre-Licensing Course, or better known as “the 5-hour class, skills that will last a lifetime". This will allow them to participate fully in the opportunities that education can make possible and remove the barriers that limit success.
