This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Hello I am a first year Mathematics educator in Brownsville, Texas. I teach 6th grade math to a little over 60 students in a low-income middle school where resources are limited. A large fraction of my students are ELL's and while learning a new language can be challenging, the beauty of numbers is that mathematics is a global language. I incorporate project instruction as much as time allows, and the students respond so well.
My students are brilliant, hardworking, and dedicated and are pushing for a better future.
Many of them are hoping to be first-generation graduates in their families Many of them are becoming fluent bilinguals and with their persistent dedication, they can become anyone they wish. With your help my students will be able to expand their learning through project-based instruction and build a strong foundation of mathematical concepts. The manipulatives I am hoping to bring into my classroom are the tools my students require in improving their skills.
My Project
The products that I have selected will help my students by giving them tools for hands-on, project-based instruction. This will increase their self-motivation and stimulate their critical thinking skills. Learning math through student-centered approaches should be equally available for all students, help me fund the materials to produce higher levels of understanding.
My students find joy in the self-discovery process and you can help be a part of their learning by choosing to help fund this project.
The dry-erase graph boards will provide my students the ease of manipulating graphs without worrying about having pencils or papers. The manipulatives will help them form a concrete understanding of strategies and concepts.
