Equipment for Special People

My students need a giant soccer ball, Elastablast, and felt soccer balls for safe play in my gym.

My Students

I teach Elementary Physical Education in a Title I school to about 630 students. In addition, I teach a special needs class of 15 students who need assistants to help demonstrate fine and gross motor skills. Because the majority of these students are non verbal, the assistants and I discussed the importance of adaptive equipment.

Due to the low abilities of my special needs class, they require specialized equipment for success in my class.

These students get so excited to move in my class, but I struggle providing them with the best materials to improve their physical skills.

My Project

Because my students are non-verbal, my co-workers and I saw through observation, that some students need resources geared towards their abilities for success. The big giant soccer ball will be utilized for my students in a wheelchair during dribbling in my soccer unit. The indestructible beanbags will be a great addition to our movement songs as our daily warm up activity, as well as throwing and catching unit. The Weplay maze balance board will improve posture and balance skills with my higher skilled students. These resources will provide beneficial to all students and encourage a fun and safe learning environment.
