My Project

Everyday, my team enhances learning with sensory tools for special minds. In our dedicated self-contained classroom, we cater to the unique learning needs of four wonderful students who have autism and challenging behaviors that interfere with the learning of others. Each student, with their individual challenges and incredible potential, inspires this project. Our goal is to provide each with a learning environment tailored to foster growth, emotional regulation, and engagement through the use of specialized tools.

Swing: The classroom swing is more than just a seat; it's a crucial therapeutic tool.

For my students, a swing helps regulate sensory needs and improve vestibular balance. The gentle rhythmic motion provides a calming effect, reducing anxiety and enhancing focus, making learning more accessible.

Sensory Materials: Sensory materials such as fidgets with different textures, lighted wall decals, kinetic sand, headphones, and soft furniture are not just playthings but vital educational aids. These tools help manage sensory overload, increase tactile awareness, and improve fine motor skills. By integrating sensory materials into daily activities, we aim to create an inclusive environment that respects each student's sensory preferences and fosters an atmosphere conducive to learning.

Emotional Regulation Tools: Tools like emotion cards, breathing tools, and quiet corners are essential for helping our students navigate their feelings and behaviors in a healthy way. Understanding and managing emotions is crucial for all children, especially those with autism to regulate themselves both academically and socially.

Our students are exceptional not just because of their needs, but because of their resilience, their unique perspectives on the world, and their potential to thrive with the right support. This project aims to equip them with the tools they need to succeed in their own terms, respecting their individuality while providing them opportunities to grow and integrate into broader social and learning contexts.
