This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Can you imagine coming to school without the supplies you need to be successful? My students are eager to learn to write on their own, but either do not have basic school supplies, or come to school with poor quality supplies that do not last, and are unable to purchase replacements during the year.
My students are inner-city, minority children attending public school in Pennsylvania.
The students are either African American, or Latino, and many are second language learners. Most are excited about coming to school, and are actually disappointed when the weekend comes!
My Project
The supplies I am requesting are age appropriate for my students. My students need a classroom set of 400 large crayons, 36 pencils, and 30 draw and write journals. They will allow the students to express themselves through drawing and beginning writing. The larger spacing of the writing lines in the journals will allow them to practice proper letter formation. The large size of the crayons and pencils will help my students learn the proper way to hold pencils and crayons, while also preventing breakage - young students tend to hold crayons and pencils with a very tight grip!
The students in my class will be excited to have their very own journals that are specially designed for their age level and ability.
This project also ensures that all students in my classroom have the same access to needed materials (journals, crayons, and pencils), helping them all start out on equal footing.
