This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The process of writing can be intimidating for all kids. However, when they know their work will be published as a book for others to read, they are motivated to work hard and create their best writing.
My students are first graders attending a school located in a low socioeconomic area in Los Angeles.
They are in a dual language class in which they are learning two languages at the same time. There are 15 boys and 7 girls between the ages of 6 and 7. My students are full of energy and are eager to learn new concepts every day even though a lot of times, because of economic hardship, their parents have two jobs to be able to support their family. Many parents are lacking time to spend with children and talk to them about the importance of education.
My Project
Often stories written for class are lost and forgotten right after the work is completed. By publishing these stories into little books, student work is honored and shared with others. There is no better way to motivate young authors to work hard to improve a piece of writing than publishing for an audience who will appreciate their stories. The Epson printer will allow my students to print their stories and cover pages to make their books.
It will be wonderful to see the quality of work the students are able to produce. By printing their books with the Epson printer, students will feel pride in their accomplishments and this will enable them to keep and share their work for years to come. The communication center has 24 cubbies which are perfect for my students to organize their publish stories. From now on, their stories will not be forgotten because each student will be assigned a cubby where they will be able to place their published stories for anyone to easily find and read.
What does this project do for my students?
It gives them a purpose for writing. It builds confidence as a writer. Please help my students become "published authors" with the help of the Epson printer and the communication center.
