I teach 20 first graders in a low-income/high poverty district in East Texas. Some of my students are English Language Learners. Our school is mainstream, where students with special needs are in regular classrooms with the other students. When they walk in the door of my classroom, I focus on their potential and growth while they are with me. Despite the challenges both in and out of the classroom, I am looking to provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences.
My students are clever, imaginative and very spontaneous.
They like to move, they love to read, and love lots of positive attention. They deserve the best education possible. These students need materials that will help keep their interest and motivate their desire to learn.
My Project
Students will work for incentives. I try to keep a box stocked with all kinds of little trinkets and I work to update it as often as possible. There is something for everybody and all they need to do is see a friend with a prize from me and I already have them hooked.
The most important thing is that it works!
They do work for it. They care and with just that little bit of incentive, I can turn their school experience into something great instead of something dreaded. But it's difficult keeping it stocked with quality items. I could really use some help.
