This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
All year my environmental science class has been learning about scientific concepts related to soil, water and land management. We have discussed and tested soil and water samples and read and researched quite a bit regarding environmental problems impacting both land and water. However as we head into the last months of class, I want to leave my students with some hands-on work that is positive and forward looking.
It is for that reason I want to get seeds and gardening equipment for my students so they can plant herbs and edible plants that they can take home at the end of the semester.
We hope to get a variety of herbs like basil and parsley and other plants such as tomatoes and peppers to get a variety of plants for students to choose from. By ending our semester with gardening and planting, we can end our class on a hopeful note with steps they can take out of the school and into their own homes and lives outside of school. This way we are focusing on positive steps and actions that students can take to help make a positive impact in their own lives from an environmental lens.
