My students need soil, water, and air analysis equipment as well as a variety of living organisms to make environmental science more tangible.
FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Kwan's classroom raised $1,843

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
We are going full speed into the APES curriculum. By the end of the year, my students will be more aware of environmental issues and policies, cause and effect, and be able to take action to make this world a more sustainable one.
We are an inner city, Title 1 school with many at risk minority students.
They are the nicest students but need an extra push in motivation. They face tremendous social and economic obstacles. Many of them are first generation students and would benefit from project based learning.
My Project
The soil analysis tests and sieve tubes will allow us better under soil texture and the importance of balance in soil organisms, compost, and nutrients. We will be testing NPK, soil texture and composition in our school garden. We will be growing seeds under different salinity concentrations using the growth lights. The water quality kits will allow us to analyze local rivers and ponds. We have also build ecocolumns to analyzed cycling of matter. The biological samples will allow us to observe organisms under different variables to understand the affects of pollution and systems. We will be using LD50 toxicology lab for the Daphnia specimens.
Your donations will provide instructional support in and out of the classroom.
Students will benefit from project based lessons and study materials. It will make learning more fun and more memorable. They will get a better background on soil, agriculture, and water quality so that they will understand human impact on it. They will be seeing the impact on biological organisms by direct observation in the classroom with controlled experiments and a variety of variables that they design.
