Environmental Science in Action

My Project

My AP Environmental Science students are passionate about making a difference in the world. They’re eager to learn how natural ecosystems function and what role humans play in both harming and protecting the environment. Many of them are aspiring environmental scientists, biologists, and engineers, and they thrive on hands-on learning experiences that let them apply classroom knowledge to real-world situations. However, our current resources don’t allow them to explore environmental issues as deeply as they could.

I am requesting a water monitoring kit that will allow my students to conduct field tests on local water sources, giving them the opportunity to gather real data and analyze water quality first-hand.

This kit will include testing supplies for pH levels, dissolved oxygen, nitrates, phosphates, and other key indicators of water health. By investigating these metrics, students will gain a deeper understanding of how human activity affects aquatic ecosystems and learn how to analyze the data in an environmental context. Hands-on water monitoring will help my students see themselves as real scientists and conservationists, ready to tackle the environmental challenges of the future.

Your donation will provide my students with the tools they need to bring their learning to life. By using the water monitoring kit, they will engage in fieldwork that mirrors what they’ll encounter in higher education and careers in environmental science. This project will inspire them to think critically about their world and prepare them for college-level courses in science, empowering them to make a meaningful impact on their environment and communities.
