Environmental Justice Media Project

My students need a Compaq Persario CQ60-410US 15.6 Wiescreen Notebook Computer and a Kodak(R) EasyShare Zi6 Pocket Video Camera.

This project is fully funded

We would like to share our idea of environmental justice with our school and neighborhood community. I teach science to all elementary age students. I teach in Michigan. We are a high-needs school.

For the past 2 years several of my students have been involved with East Michigan Environmental Action Council(EMEAC) that was located at our school. (They have since moved from our building). These students made movies about environmental justice that were presented at Green Screen Environmental Film Festival. Since EMEAC has moved from our building we no longer have the resources( computer and flip/camcorder) to continue this program.

In order to continue to work with our students on Environmental justice using media we need a laptop computer and a flip/camcorder. These materials will allow my students to continue to compete in the Green Screen Environmental Film Festival. These materials can also be used to show our school administers (at all levels) what environmental issues the students feel are important and possible solutions to them. By doing this our students are learning how to define issues that are important to them, express themselves to others and do their best at making a difference in their environment.

Your help will ensure that my students have the opportunity to make a difference in their own environment and community. The awareness of the environment and their rights to speak out have been a big incentive for my students to keep learning and growing as productive individuals. You support will make it possible for these students and new ones who join in to continue to learn and help bring awareness to the community regarding environmental issues.
