This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My environmental science students have been learning about a number of different environmental issues across the year, including climate change, waste production, and air/water pollution. However, while there are lots of problems and issues we learn about, it is much harder to show students that there is hope and there are solutions to many of these problems.
The hope is that through this project, students will be able to see some of the physical actions that they can take to reduce their environmental footprint and help incorporate those solutions into their daily lives.
Students often eat out in our school building, so by providing them with ways to reduce their single use plastic when they eat out, I hope to help them build positive environmental habits. A silicon straw is a small gesture that might make a big change.
We also want to get some different books to help explain both the environmental issues facing their generation, but also ways to look at solutions to those problems. It is my hope that this project will help students feel like they have a voice and they have the ability to make change in their lives and in their communities.
