Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
After teaching PreK SPED for the last two years, I will be teaching a group of students that will be in fourth and fifth grade this upcoming school year. They will be in my reading/language arts for a two-hour block. Any student of any age is special and deserves a chance to grow academically, socially, and emotionally.
What I hope to instill in all of the students will be the love of reading and writing.
While some already have the passion, some others don’t quite have it yet. One period will house general education students, with a few ESOL and/or ESE students, while the other two-hour block will house students that are in the Gifted Program.
My Project
My classroom will feel more appealing to students when they walk in daily and view a pleasant learning environment. Making the classroom inviting and conducive to learning is a teacher's duty. Bringing out enthusiasm and passion is what needs to happen from the time they enter until the time they leave.
The use of flexible seating for collaboration, communication, silent reading, creativity, and critical thinking will entice learning.
By changing the traditional desks and chairs to add a flexible seating arrangement, it will elevate the learners' optimum participation, effort, and happiness. The children will feel a sense of empowerment by choosing where they wish to sit.
They will get to enjoy silent reading while sitting in one of two comfortable armchairs and will be able to lay their book on the round accent table. Each child will have the serenity one should have while savoring a good book. Six other children might choose the round cushioned pillows to sit on the floor and will have a tray to be able to write in their journals. The stools will come in handy to sit on the teacher-led table during shared reading or while working on other reading or writing strategies and activities. Sparking up their interest using flexible seating will prove to be beneficial for the students to actively engage during the learning process.
