My students need engaging and motivating games to help them learn to read, write, and learn foundational mathematical skills. They need math learning and reading centers, sound phones, and write and wipe pockets.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Students in our classroom are curious, fun-loving children who thrive off of positive feedback, stickers, and warm hugs. They like to dance, move around, and love to read! Many of them are being raised in single parent households and receive a free or reduced lunch based on their socioeconomic status. From the minute they walk in the door of our classroom, they are excited to learn and wonder about new things. Though the lives they experience outside of the classroom cannot be controlled, they all know once they walk into class, they are respected, loved, and cared for. I hope to inspire and instill a love for learning and respect for others among the children in my class!
My Project
When children come from low socioeconomic statuses and are expected to achieve high demands with the Common Core, a great teacher must find ways to engage and motivate their students!
With your help, they will be able to intimately listen to their own voice of stories read out loud to them through the use of the “hear myself phones”of stories taking them to faraway lands, and utilize the centers games to help make learning more hands on fun!
I can imagine my students sitting at their seats using the "hear myself phone" where children can listen closely to their stories and hear their own voice reading to themselves, helping them become careful readers! The phonemic awareness instant learning centers will help my struggling readers build on critical foundational skills to become life-long readers and help them achieve the next skill they need to get to second grade! While literacy is such an important skill, our students need to find a passion for mathematics as well.
Through the use of the resource like math learning centers and the write and wipe set can allow for students to become stronger mathematicians. Students will be able to use manipulatives found in each of these sets requested and build on their number sense. The idea of letting my students use dry erase markers to work in math and practice their numbers and doubles facts will provide them with the motivation while building their stamina to succeed in first grade. These write and wipe sets will be great to increase student motivation and save paper at the same time by reusing the same materials for all students!
