My Students
My students are a diverse group of learners. They have varying cultural and economic backgrounds. Also, they represent all types of learners: gifted and talented, English language learners, special education, etc. We are also a music magnet school so most of our students play instruments.
I strive to meet the needs of ALL students.
I have students that range from beginning readers, to reading at a middle school level. While it's challenging, I work to help everyone on my students grow into a life-long learners.
My Project
I work in a school with a diverse population. My classroom is inclusive, which means I have students with learning difficulties or are learning English. Recently, I've had an influx of students who have dyslexia. Despite my masters degree, I have never received any formal training in dyslexia intervention. As a reading teacher, this is a large gap in my training that needs to be closed.
This training would allow me to provide reading instruction that is more attuned to the way students with dyslexia learn.
The professional development trains teachers to deliver a systematic, explicit, and intensive research based program to our dyslexia students. The training also reviews the laws and fundamentals of dyslexia to help teachers fully understand these students. While I am doing my best to help the students I currently have with dyslexia, this training would equip me to fully meet their needs.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
