Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Remember not knowing what a word meant or how to pronounce it? My students often see words in texts or in lessons to which they do not know the meaning of. We currently are borrowing dictionaries from another teacher and could use a class set. My English Language Learners use these every day!

My students attend a High School in Northern California.

They are eager and curious learners who rely on reference material to help in understanding texts, write essays, and improve their language acquisition. Since many of my students are English Language Learners they depend on using reference material to help with homework, essays, and learning how to pronounce words to increase their vocabulary work bank.

My Project

I remember as a student having access to materials in my classroom during class time. It is sad to see that most classrooms don't have a class set or in my case any dictionaries (currently borrowing from another kind teacher). This project would help students with their work as a reference tool. It is the most updated dictionary with new words that have been added. It is not outdated and would help tremendously with their writing skills. We will be able to use them when having our vocabulary wall, study for tests, and most importantly help students build their language skills.

This project is so important to my students because it allows them access to the basic necessities a student needs, a dictionary.

Many students do not have access to computers or have Internet. This would be a valuable tool in their learning adventure.
