My students need games to learn about money and counting money, and financial literacy books to learn about needs/wants, saving/spending, and making financially sound choices.
My students arrive to school excited and eager to learn. They are curious about their world and love learning through fun, hands-on activities. Our school is diverse, with many families speaking more than one language, and our parents with varying educational backgrounds. Language, background experiences, and educational differences should not deter them from learning.
Educating a child is a partnership between parents, teachers, and schools.
As a teacher, it is my passion to do whatever I can to give all of my students the opportunity to learn. By involving their families in their education, my students will have a greater chance at exceeding their academic goals. Through this project, students will work with games and books to build their financial literacy.
My Project
First graders learn best through hands-on practice. They love reading and listening to stories and are best able to learn about financial literacy through discussion and games.
Games and books about financial topics will enrich my students' learning.
Through books and money games, students will strengthen their understanding of money and its role in their lives. Providing multiple books with lessons on saving, spending, earning, needs, and wants will provide a chance for them to connect to financial lessons. Having games with money will give them a chance to cash in on the value of money and enrich our classroom conversations.
