Enriching English Language Through Art

My students need a variety of theme books, a laminator, card stock, and a Belkin tablet stage.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Some people think it is a blessing to have a quiet class. My case is the opposite; Quietness means that my English language learners are not comprehending. I have to modify all my lessons so that I ensure that I am meeting their language individual needs.

My students are new comers from another country and struggling readers that come to the learning center on a daily basis to receive extra support in language development and reading.

Although they struggle to read independently, they enjoy read-alouds and shared readings where they are able to engage in rich discussions that lead towards making connection, partner sharing, retelling stories or sharing newly learned knowledge with their peers through different collaborative groupings.

My Project

I will use the Belkin tablet stage to project the theme books, which will help my students learn, and practice using, content-specific language so they can successfully learn, communicate, and extend academic content-area learning. By viewing the text and images, and then providing them with the opportunity to collaborate in heterogeneous language groups, students will relate what they learn in English to what they already know in their native language. Their learning will be solidified as they create an artistic, labeled representation that will be laminated and created into personal theme books. The art activities will vary by themes. For the earth and environment theme books, I will have students use recycled materials to create posters on the card stocks about why it is important to recycle. We will display them all over campus. Best of all, once students take the projects home, they will share their learning experiences with their relatives.

Students will embrace the lessons as they will soon see how the art activities will help them remember and share the concepts.

They will enthusiastically participate in the learning process and have fun creating different art projects.
