This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
“The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go.” ~Dr. Seuss. A warm hello from the South Bronx! We are an 8th grade English Language Arts class from a high needs school who would love to take our learning to the next level!
My students truly make coming to school every day a joy.
Their vibrancy encourages me to be the best teacher possible and we're continuously learning together and trying to build a community in our classroom.
Our school was recently placed on Mayor De Blasio's list of renewal schools, which means we were identified as a Priority or Focus School by the State Department of Education, demonstrated low academic achievement for each of the three prior years, and scored "proficient" or below on our most recent quality review. Although Mayor De Blasio's plan for the schools on the renewal list includes extra financial attention, our classroom cannot wait for next year to push our learning to the next level.
Our hope is to secure a document camera, so we can better improve our close reading and writing skills. Without a functioning Smart board or a projector, my students are left without the opportunity to be guided visually through models of exemplary reading and writing.
My Project
When we secure our document camera, I will be able to walk through guided examples of important reading passages or model samples of written student work.
Rather than having to recreate merely adequate examples on the chalkboard, a document camera will allow my students to have an excellent visual model of interacting with texts and writing. In terms of differentiating instruction, a document camera will help to ensure that I am taking the necessary steps to meet the needs of the various types of learners in my classroom, including former ELLs.
A document camera will provide an opportunity for my students to interact closely with reading and writing. Through more direct interaction with texts and writing, my students can not only increase a variety of skills in ELA, including close reading and annotating, but they can also increase their love and appreciation for expertly crafted words.
Donations to this project will help to improve our classroom exponentially.
The number one priority of our classroom is student learning, and technology can greatly aid in achieving this goal. A document camera would allow us to take a critical extra step in our instruction, which would make a world's difference for my students.
I hope our project can be fulfilled for the sake of the complete enrichment of my students' learning. Thank you for your consideration with our proposal.
