Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Most of my students are from low socioeconomic backgrounds and are a mixture of Hispanic and African American students. They are also students who have special needs. Parents do their best to provide the bare essentials that their kids need throughout the school year but many times that is all that they can give them. Many of the families have at least 4 kids in the school. It is a lot to ask a family to purchase materials when some of them cannot pay their utility bills. Although the parents and the school community do their best to provide for the children, with budget cuts it is getting harder to provide them with tools for learning.
My Project
Junior Scholastic magazines will entice my students to become engaged in current events. My students will benefit from having a current event magazine that is written at there reading level. There are so many social, political and economic issues occurring in our society today that it is important that students have a comprehensive understanding so that they themselves can form independent opinions on issues that affect them the most.
As students become more engaged in there learning they will inquire more about what is going on in the world that will have a positive or negative effect on them.
They will also gain an understanding that they have a voice and can change the world around them.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
