This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our students are brilliantly resilient scholars who come from immigrant, blue-collar households close to downtown LA. Many of them attend school year-round to catch up on reading and writing skills. These students tirelessly work toward fluency in English while continuing to persevere through the struggles of their community.
The culture we are promoting at our school is college readiness through the use of strategies such as physical organization, note-taking, and paraphrasing.
Students are called to be leaders in their community and use their critical thinking skills to help better our communities! Students show up every day ready to tackle the day's objectives and build community with one another.
My Project
In our class, we learn about being Global Citizens and start with our school community. Bins, bags, pick up tools, and reusable straws will help my students begin to put into practice what they are learning in the classroom. We will use these materials to clean up around our school campus and then clean around the school in our community! Here in LA, there is so much trash on the streets emptying out into our ocean. Students are motivated, so let's get them into action! They are the leaders of the future!
