My students need individual white boards and markers to show what they know. They need playing cards to master their facts. Cubbies will teach them organizational skills.

My Students
Help us show what we know and save some trees! We love to use the white boards instead of boring paper and pencils. White boards motivate students and get them excited to participate in whole and small group lesson. Plus, they're environmentally friendly!
I teach grades 4 and 5 (2 separate classes) at a magnet school in Connecticut.
I have about 44 students in total. I teach math and science. The students go to school all year round, so they are constantly learning and building skills. My students are energetic, hard-working, and enthusiastic about learning. They are motivated to understand the new, and sometimes challenging, concepts we cover in fourth and fifth grade. They love to show off what their knowledge and understanding through in many ways. One of their favorite things about math is the multiplication and division facts. My fifth grade class has mastered multiplication and most of division and my fourth grade class is working hard to develop their fluency with the facts. They also like to be challenged and will try to stump visitors. In science, my students love to do experiments to learn about the world they live in and why things work the way they do.
My Project
During whole group lessons, students are expected to respond to questions presented to them by myself or other students. Sometimes, every student wants to answer, but there is simply not enough time to take all responses. When I want all students to answer, I have them write down a response or solution so that I can quickly check and respond. Students also write questions to avoid being singled out. Currently, students share white boards or use paper to do this. We would like to have more boards so that each student can have his or her own, allowing them to show what they know or ask questions without being afraid or embarrassed.
Cubbies will give each student his/her own space within the classroom, which is important because they switch classes and share the room with other students.
The multiplication and division playing cards will serve as a fun way to practice and master multiplication and division facts. We have a few sets of cards, but not enough for everyone to play at once.
Your donation will make a huge difference in the lives of 44 students.
White boards and markers will add a different dynamic to our lessons. They will allow them to participate freely and openly. Cubbies will teach them organizational skills. Playing cards will give them another fun way to practice their facts so they can be the best mathematicians they can be. If you can help fulfill this donation, the students will be happy and excited to continue our school year!
