Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Many of my students struggle with reading. They all have varied levels and styles of reading and it can be challenging to find a book that would work well with all of them. I would love the opportunity to purchase a new high interest book that is grade appropriate for my class. This will make for a much better reading experience for them and give them an opportunity to enjoy reading thus increasing their ability to build literacy and comprehension.
My Project
This book that I am requesting is a very high interest book that grabs the attention of most readers in the middle grades. It works well with the varied reading levels that I have in my classroom. I hope to teach students about important themes in the book, such as the importance of having perseverance when life breaks you down and gets very tough, while also showing them that they can enjoy reading as a whole. I will use these books to teach students skills in plot and theme as well as characterization. By the end of the novel my hope is that the pleasant reading experience has eased some of the reluctancies to read and opened the door for better learning.
