My students need earbuds to be able to quietly listen and concentrate on the stories they are listening to on the computers.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I work at an inner city school in Texas. I am the librarian at my school. Most of our students are from families with limited income and limited grasp of the English language. Many of the students have limited or no access to computers and/or the Internet at home.
When the students come to the library once a week I try to make the computers available for use as much as possible.
We have access to reading and math websites that enable the students to practice their skills. I concentrate on reading sites for students to listen and read books in English. This is highly useful in improving their English verbally and in print.
Due to Hurricane Harvey, some supplies are more difficult for my students to obtain. Since the computer reading programs it is necessary for each child to have a set of headphones or earplugs. I would like to make available as many sets as I can obtain.
My Project
I am the librarian at my school. I have 30 computers available for the students to use. I also have another class that meets at the back of the library. When all of my students are at the computers it is difficult to read and concentrate on their stories.
Headphones or earbuds will help keep the noise level down and therefore place the students in a better learning environment.
It will also help them to stay tuned in to their stories and not their neighbor's. Listening to stories in English should help to build a better understanding of the language and improve their vocabulary.
