Enhancing Young Learner's Critical Thinking and Emotional Regulation Through Literacy
Help me give my students rich literacy experiences that will also help them develop vocabulary, language and social emotional skills. Children will use the books and storyboards to learn math, science, and emotional regulation skills.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I co-teach an inclusive preschool classroom and all of my students regardless of their abilities are brilliant, hard-working, unique and capable of learning. The children in my classroom range in their eligibilities from Speech delays, Autism, Intellectually disabled, traumatic brain injury and other health impairments. Distance learning has increased the barriers that children with disabilities face, making it more difficult for equitable learning.
My Project
Providing my students with rich literacy experiences is crucial for them to develop critical thinking, foundational math skills and emotional regulation. The books and felt boards will be used in conjunction with nursery rhyme songs to teach children numbers, shapes, letters, colors and social skills.
During distance learning, felt story boards will be very useful for visual and auditory learners.
The social emotional books will be used to check in daily with my students. With the use of literacy, children will learn how to identify their emotions and most importantly, how to deal with their emotions. Daily Social emotional check-ins is more important than ever as, everyone including young children are experiencing this global pandemic.
