This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
In my roll as an Interpreter-Translator in Greenway Park Elementary school, I am in charge of bridging communication gaps between the school and non-English speaking students, families, and staff. For example: Interpretation Services. Translate spoken language during parent-teacher conferences, meetings, and school events to ensure that non-English speaking families understand important information about their child’s education. Facilitate communication between students and teachers, especially in classrooms where students may have limited proficiency in English. Translation of Written Materials: Translate documents such as letters, newsletters, permission slips, report cards, and other school communications into the preferred language(s) of non-English speaking families.
In this role, I am sure that all students, regardless of language proficiency, have equal access to education and that their families are informed and engaged in their child’s learning experience.
