This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students are hands-on learners and actively engage in activities that support total sensory input. These materials will assist students in developing communication skills, improving fine motor abilities, and exploring sensory feed-back input. The weighted dinosaur will assist students who benefit from “heavy” work which builds muscle strength and enhances focusing skills. The sensory octopus provides tons of tactile input while encouraging positive social emotional growth. Vocabulary activities addressing adjectives through describing tasks will entice students to not only participate but expand their vocabulary knowledge base. Lacing objects assist with improving fine motor skills, following directions, counting, etc.. Tangrams are a WONDERFUL teaching tool! Mathematics galore! Literally countless learning objectives can be addressed through the utilization of these manipulatives (i.e., geometric shapes, patterns, counting, sorting, etc.). The Story of Tangrams will be utilized with these interactive manipulatives to encourage maximum educational growth. The “Brainometry” game is an excellent STEM resource promoting comprehension of logic and cognitive thinking skill. The stacking manipulative will be used to address both language, math, and fine motor skills. The remaining item, wooden alphabet train, will be used to promote literacy skills, alphabet knowledge, counting, letter sound recognition, etc.. The train is reversible. Therefore, students can arrange the train cars in alphabetical order or by picture corresponding to the beginning sound. These materials are interactive and will promote academic skills. I’m excited to implement lessons I have already established for these resources. Thank you for taking the time to read this projects purpose.
