Enhancing Science Learning Through The Arts

My students need colored pencils, sharpeners, a biology coloring book, poster board, colored paper, and a laminating cartridge to create science drawings, posters, and models.

My Students

Seeing students excited about science has been the greatest gift since joining Donors Choose. Our district has faced a lot of financial hardship in recent years and your donations make hands-on learning and inclusion a reality in my classroom.

We are a rural, low-income school district surrounded by farmland, which many students live and work on.

Many of my students are tactile or kinesthetic learners who enjoy being able to get out of their desks, move around, work with their hands, experiment, and create things. I also have a unique group of learners with special needs who often require modified instruction to achieve success in our science class.

My Project

My students are a diverse group of learners, representing all ability levels and learning styles. Some students don't learn and perform as well on traditional homework assignments and tests, but instead excel at projects where they can be more creative. My artistic students and kinesthetic learners enjoy getting to work with their hands to create things. They learn through process, actions, and art.

The resources provided by this project will allow my students to learn in ways suited for own unique set of needs and talents.

I want to provide them with art supplies and coloring pages, ample paper to build three-dimensional models, and poster board so they can create artistic representations of viruses, cells, and other specimens from our biology class. Students will use these creative materials to learn and model cellular respiration, mitosis, cell structure, virus structure, and other complex science topics. Once created, we will laminate student work to preserve it and showcase it to others.
