Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I love growing readers! Providing my students with chapter books and books about different cultures expands their vocabulary and builds a knowledge base for understanding life and different cultures. The demographics of my school is 85% Hispanic so it is important to provide my students with books in their native language. I like to have both the English and Spanish versions. Often I will do bilingual reads with a Hispanic speaking teacher and all my students love it!

I also think it is important to take a break from the Basel/text book reader and read trade books about different subjects - like holidays, emotions, and chapter books.

Reading a chapter book and have the students create their own vocabulary lists and conduct book discussions help the student own their work and apply themselves to learning.
