Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I teach special education M/M grades kinder through fourth grade. I also assist in my school's reading intervention program. I not only help my special education students, but I also help general education students. With the help of this foundation's manual, I will learn new strategies to help build students' foundational reading skills that are necessary to become proficient readers. My goal is to help as many students as possible reach their reading goals for the year. Many students want to be able to read grade-level books but are struggling. I, myself, have been struggling with how I can help these students become the readers they want to become.
I have heard from multiple teachers that UFLI Foundations is THE book to have.
I have also heard great stories about Orton Gillingham's programs and books. I have researched and read that many struggling students become readers with the use of Ortan Gillingham's resources and lessons. With the two Orton Gillingham books, I will be provided with lessons and resources to enhance students' foundational reading. This will also help me with lesson planning for my intervention and special ed small groups.
