This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I teach in an inner city school in Compton where all of the students qualify for free and reduced lunch. Our current PE equipment is outdated and insufficient for middle school class sizes. I believe that tennis and badminton promote lifelong fitness, teamwork, and motor skills. Students lack exposure to these sports due to equipment limitations. We do not have a dedicated physical education teacher at this school site and my students are lacking the proper equipment to enhance their physical education class.

The goal would be to increase student engagement and skill development in PE by providing quality tennis and badminton equipment.

Students will participate in regular tennis and badminton units, learning rules, strategies, and sportsmanship. This will increase student participation and enjoyment in PE, and improve their hand-eye coordination, fitness, and teamwork. Tennis and badminton are sports that are inclusive of all abilities and skill levels.

With your support, we will acquire racquets, nets, balls, and birdies to provide high-quality, inclusive instruction. This investment will allow us to reach over 90 middle school students each year and foster a love for physical activity.
