Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

This service project will be led by older students through read aloud to younger students in the building and these resource will also help support their literacy skills to be able to read to families and students during our community nights. These supplies will help our students to be able to create a service project that gives them the resources to be able to listen to books and follow along to the stories by pairing our younger students with our more advanced, older readers. These resources will allow our students of all reading abilities to feel confident in their shared reading and to practice reading aloud to our younger students within our school community and during our upcoming community nights where students volunteer to support younger family members so parents can engage with their other children. With having resources to be able to listen to the stories out loud, this provides all students access to engage in our service project. Regardless of reading background, ability or comfortability, having the resources to hear the stories out loud and follow along together while doing art projects or building with magnetic blocks together, creates a safe space for students to be able to connect and learn and highlight the importance of literacy within our school community.

These resources will provide all students access to our literacy supportive service project to create sustainable reading buddy classes for our students to advocate for literacy and connection based school-wide supports.

Having access to these resources will allow our students to be able to engage in the reading at a pace that feels comfortable to them, be able to dissociate and build shared experiences through crafts/creativity-based experiences as they listen, and be able to build their literacy skills by pairing the words with familiar texts.
