This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
The items I am requesting will significantly enhance my students' skills in recognizing and manipulating sounds in words, which are crucial for developing strong reading abilities. For instance, the Gamenote word-building pocket chart will be instrumental in teaching blending sounds. Students will practice combining sounds to form words, like blending the sounds /c/, /a/, and /t/ to produce "cat."
Additionally, the Elkonin phonemic game will support sound manipulation.
This game encourages students to isolate and move sounds within words, such as changing the /m/ in "mat" to /h/ to create "hat." Such activities build phonemic awareness, a vital skill for early readers.
It's also essential to have CVC (consonant-vowel-consonant) and CVVC (consonant-vowel-vowel-consonant) games for sequential learning. For example, students can play games focusing on CVC words like "dog" and "bat" before progressing to CVVC words like "boat" and "rain." This step-by-step approach ensures students grasp each sound pattern before moving on to more complex structures.
Finally, the 145-piece sentence-building set will undoubtedly engage my RSP (Resource Specialist Program) students. They will have the opportunity to construct sentences using words like "The dog runs fast" or "I see a big cat," which helps strengthen their understanding of sentence structure and meaning.
These resources will create a fun and interactive learning environment that fosters my students' literacy skills effectively.
