My Project
The holiday season offers a unique opportunity to teach students the importance of community engagement, creativity, and real-world application of classroom skills. This project requests durable, reusable gift bags that will serve as the foundation for an experiential learning activity. Students will design and personalize these bags with uplifting messages and artistic flair, integrating literacy, art, and math standards into the process. For example, students will write short, meaningful notes of encouragement to include in the bags, enhancing their writing and editing skills. They will also calculate material needs, measure dimensions for optimal placement of designs, and manage a project budget—applying math skills in a practical, engaging way. This interactive project not only reinforces academic content but also encourages collaboration and critical thinking as students work together to brainstorm designs, create prototypes, and reflect on their progress.
The personalized gift bags will ultimately be filled with donations and distributed to individuals in need within the community.
This real-world application connects classroom learning to societal impact, showing students how their work can bring joy to others. By role-playing scenarios, such as how to explain their creative choices or present their bags to recipients, students develop public speaking and interpersonal skills. This project goes beyond typical lessons by fostering empathy, social responsibility, and teamwork while aligning with curriculum goals.
