This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Creating a supportive and engaging learning environment is essential for the success of special education students. Flexible seating provides students with choice, comfort, and movement, allowing them to learn in a way that best suits their individual needs. Many students in special education struggle with sensory processing, focus, and self-regulation, and traditional desks and chairs may not provide the necessary support for their learning styles. By incorporating alternative seating options, such as wobble stools, floor cushions, standing desks, and bean bag chairs, students will have the ability to move, adjust, and find seating that enhances their ability to focus and engage in classroom activities.
The benefits of flexible seating are extensive.
Movement-friendly seating can improve focus and attention by allowing students to self-regulate through gentle movement. It also promotes better posture, increased engagement, and a sense of independence by giving students ownership over their learning space. Additionally, flexible seating encourages collaborative learning, as students feel more comfortable working in different spaces and with various peers. By creating a sensory-friendly and adaptable classroom, students will experience reduced anxiety, increased motivation, and improved participation in lessons. Providing diverse seating options will ensure that every student, regardless of their unique needs, has a comfortable and effective space to learn and grow.
