Enhancing Global Competence Through Engagement with Authentic Texts
Help me give my students the opportunity to build fluency and stay informed about current events, global issues, and the environment with engaging articles from Scholastic News and Science Spin magazines.
My students eagerly anticipate their daily read-aloud sessions with partners, where they actively engage in building fluency and comprehension. By incorporating rich, thought-provoking texts that ignite curiosity and wonder about the world, I am able to increase student engagement and foster a genuine love for learning.
With the support of Scholastic News and Science Spin magazines, my students will gain access to high-interest, age-appropriate articles that integrate social studies, science, and timely topics such as climate change and environmental awareness.
These resources provide a meaningful context for students to explore real-world issues while developing essential academic skills.
As a cross-curricular tool, these magazines support the development of complex language proficiency through aligned reading, writing, listening, and speaking activities. Moreover, the nonfiction content promotes critical 21st-century skills, including critical thinking, effective communication, collaboration, and digital literacy. This comprehensive resource will not only enhance academic achievement but also prepare my students to be informed, thoughtful, and empowered citizens.
