Enhancing Equity Through Technology

Help me give my students a smart television as an instructional and planning tool in the special education classroom.

My Project

Help me give my students access to a television in the special education classroom. A television will make a huge difference in student achievement because it supports multisensory learning, which is essential for students with reading difficulties. A television will allow instruction to be delivered through visual and auditory channels, helping dyslexic students better understand and retain information when text alone is challenging. For students from low socio-economic backgrounds, access to technology may be limited at home, so using it in the classroom helps close the opportunity gap by exposing them to educational media, visual aids, and interactive lessons that build background knowledge and vocabulary. Overall, it enhances engagement, supports differentiated instruction, and provides equitable access to quality educational content.

Using a TV, teachers can show helpful programs like:

ST Math – a visual math program that builds problem-solving skills

Online math manipulatives – tools that help students understand math by seeing and moving objects

UFLI (University of Florida Literacy Institute) – a program that supports reading through phonics and interactive lessons

Reading Rev – a program that helps students build reading and comprehension skills

These programs help students learn in different ways, not just through reading, making lessons easier to understand and more fun. A TV makes it possible to share these resources with the whole class, supporting both learning and equity.
