This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am seeking funding to acquire a diverse collection of high-quality picture books that celebrate the lives, achievements, and contributions of Black individuals throughout history. Currently, our library lacks a comprehensive collection of diverse picture books that accurately and engagingly portray Black history, hindering students' ability to engage in meaningful discussions, build vocabulary, improve reading comprehension, and explore diverse perspectives. These new resources will significantly impact student learning by providing engaging texts that support reading development, fostering a love of reading, expanding cultural awareness, developing critical thinking skills, fostering empathy and understanding, and inspiring creativity. They are eager learners who are excited to explore new ideas and perspectives. This project will provide valuable resources for students and enrich their learning experience during Black History Month and throughout the year.
