Multi-lingual learners bring with them a wide variety of experiences, knowledge and skills when learning English as a second language. The closure of schools and the shift to remote learning has disrupted the language learning process for our ELL students. Many ELL students experienced challenges in accessing language support services and resources. ELL students also faced challenges in accessing necessary technology for remote learning, such as laptops and reliable internet connection, which may have hindered their language development. Some students encountered difficulties in fully engaging with online instruction, especially if they have limited English proficiency, which could impact their academic progress. iPads offer a wealth of digital reading materials that can captivate young learners and promote reading comprehension. With access to e-books, interactive stories, and educational apps, students can explore various genres, build vocabulary, and improve their reading fluency. The iPad's built-in dictionary and text-to-speech functions can also aid students in understanding unfamiliar words and pronunciation. Additionally, interactive reading activities on iPads, such as comprehension quizzes and annotations, provide immediate feedback, making the reading experience more interactive and engaging. I will use the ipad with my ELL students to work on reading comprehension, fluency and vocabulary for English Language development.
