Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are active young learners who need support with communication, self regulation, and social skills; many of them are identified with autism or developmental delays. Hands on learning opportunities are essential for them to gain the skills in areas where they need the most support.

My Project

Many of the students are starting school for the first time, and those who are returning are doing so after having their first year in school cut short due to COVID. The majority of students at the school are from economically disadvantaged backgrounds and the primary language of many of our families is not English.

As we return to the school building, due to social distancing protocols, each student will need to have their own set of materials for each activity we do throughout the day.

My students will learn their numbers and begin to obtain math skills, as well as continue to work on their fine motor skills, by utilizing Nuts About Counting and the Counting Cars. The mini magic boards will help with their pre-writing skills, and the Alpha Locks and Alphabots will aid them as they learn their letters. Water beads, kinetic sand, and play doh are used during sensory play which helps with student social emotional learning. And the containers and binders will be used to keep these materials separate for each student.

They will benefit from having their own materials and not have to cross-contaminate items. If this project is funded, it will allow me to provide my students with all of the materials they need to enhance their learning.
