My Students
I love my students' personalities, and I would like to get them more excited about reading. They are at the age where reading is more of a chore to them rather than exciting to them. I want to make that change happen.
My students are energetic and very funny.
I would love to engage them more with reading. I think with middle school, we don't have a chance to reintroduce the love of reading, I would like to use this as an opportunity to do so. I want my students to love reading.
My Project
I am a new middle school teacher, I would like some reading materials to help engage my students. Seventh grade is an important year for Chicago Public Schools, and test scores matter. Seventh graders grades matter in 7th grade for getting into a good high school. I want my students to be excited about coming to my classroom and be ready to engage in learning.
I would like to make my library corner more exciting so students WANT to go sit and read, rather than feeling like I am forcing them to read.
I want a variety of books in the library.
Read-aloud books for my seventh graders are a great way to start the day off on the right track. I researched which books could help us. There are different themes and ideas out there surrounding the books I chose. For example, "Red" will be helpful when starting off the school year and for making and keeping friendships and connections throughout the year.
