This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
As students move from the primary grades to the intermediate grades, students start to become more and more independent. To support this, I am looking to enhance their critical thinking and problem solving skills. These skills are crucial for students as they move toward the secondary grades and into adulthood. My school has made a major shift toward a STEM focus, which is why I am seeking support for my 5th grade class.
It's time for a shift away from textbooks and worksheets to hands-on learning and the chance to think critically.
My students have consistently shown excitement toward science, but they want to delve into projects and other activities rather than read from a textbook and work on worksheets. These activities will allow them to work collaboratively in small groups and let them dive straight in. These kits will also allow me to work in a centers rotation schedule so every student has the chance to work with these throughout the year.
