This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are full of energy and curiosity! They are five and six-year-olds who come to school excited to learn. I try to make learning fun and engaging as they learn through play. For some of my students, kindergarten is their first school experience which means that they come with different skills and abilities.

I believe that every child can learn at their own developmental pace.

My goal as their teacher is to provide engaging and challenging learning experiences in a positive and safe environment.

My Project

I'm requesting a variety of books that can be used to develop my students literacy skills and language skills. Research shows that students who have a strong foundation in their first language are able to use their language skills to acquire a second language.

Books that consist cognates are great because I can show my students how Spanish and English are similar.

They will be able to make connections and learn new vocabulary words. Also, students who have a higher vocabulary will become fluent readers.

These books will be used as interactive readalouds on a daily basis. My students will have multiple opportunities to learn new vocabulary, make predictions, act out the stories, and so much more!
