My Project
Our district did not have enough iPads for teachers in all departments to utilize with the students. Only classroom teachers were able to receive them, but our English language learner department needs one too and I just can't afford it. Our students have Chromebooks, but the app I use for oral language building and the curriculum I use with my English learners (several of whom have special needs, are diagnosed as autistic, and/or are newcomers) is only available for an Apple iPad. I work with these students one-on-one or in very small groups and they love and look forward to using the iPad when I begin my lessons with them.
Familiarity and routine are vital to these students in order to be successful in the quest for English language acquisition.
I have many manipulatives and other tools that I use to work with all of my students, but this is one that really draws their focus and attention to be ready to learn.
